1/7/2024 0 Comments Zbrush symmetryKeep in mind that Mirror and Weld only works in one direction, so in certain situations it may first be necessary to flip the geometry to the other side of the axis first with the Tool> Deformation> Mirror function along the relevant axis to make sure the correct side is mirrored. You will first need to make sure that the intended center of the mesh is as close as possible to the center of the symmetry operation. With the TestNecklaceBOriginal (our un-distorted object) selected we activate Store Target/MorphMT from the ZBrush side menu and the X Symmetry (hotkey x). You can do it by using GoZ or just export them and re import them in ZBrush. It will force the mesh back into symmetry across the tool center (or across the local center of the subtool if L.Sym is enabled. Transfer all 3 items (1 figure and 2 necklaces) to ZBrush. The Tool> Geometry> Modify Topology> Mirror and Weld function can be used to do this. You can repair this by forcing your mesh back into symmetry. As the character is symmetrical the symmetry should be on, this will allow you to do both sides at the same time and also keep the rig centered. Now that you have modeled the character and adding some details it is time to pose him using the Transpose Master tool. If it still isn’t working, it means your mesh’s bounding box is not the same on both sides, either from geometry that is not the same on both sides of the bounding box center, or maybe from a piece of geometry that is present on one side but not the other, pushing the bounding box out of whack on one side. The main reason is that smart-resym can take a very long time to calculate on higher subdivision levels of a mesh. So, that effectively resolves my problem, though I do think the solution I’ve suggested would be better overall. Perhaps I did and, at the time, it did not work, but as of the latest version at least,smart-resym does work with multiple meshes in a single subtool. It seems like the kind of thing that I would have tested long before now. Gratefully, your comments pushed me to test that assumption. Of course, the smart-resym feature is good for those scenarios, but I am often working in situations where I have multiple objects combined into a single subtool and I had been operating under the assumption that the smart-resym feature would not work in that scenario. That option works in some situations, but it is not an appropriate solution in cases where the topology must not be changed. Note that this feature only works in one direction, so in some situations you may first need to flip the mesh along the desired axis with Tool > Deformation > Mirror in order for the mesh to M&W along the axis in the correct direction. This can be done with the Tool > Geometry> Modify Topology > Mirror and Weld feature. There are three types of symmetry: Symmetry. You can then work on one side of the mesh without concern for the other, and mirror the changes to the other side after you’re done working. Symmetry allows you to sculpt one side of your model and have the other side update with your changes as well. Generally speaking, if you want a feature to have no influence on the other side of the mesh, you would disable mirror symmetry. It’s true that certain features, in certain situations, don’t work well when close to the center line with symmetry mode active.
